A glance at the German Youth Federation for Christian Endeavor (GYFCE)
Christian Endeavor in Germany is made up of 16 regional unions. All together 40.000 children, teens and young adults gather weekly in 3.000 groups in 650 places around Germany. GYFCE and the regional unions are offering a broad variety of training in areas such as spiritual life, theology, leadership, arts and law. The materials for weekly bible studies are prepared and distributed for different age groups.
The mission statement of Christian Endeavor describes the heard beat of our work in Germany:
“The Christian Endeavor movement exists to disciple young people, to shape them as holy characters and to enable them to disciple their generation.”
The individual departments in the German federation are:
We support local groups in preparing topical input as well as entertainment and activities for the kids. Camps and bible weeks are initiated. Annual contests are fun for the groups and help them to extend their biblical knowledge in a playful way. More and more pathfinder groups are being lounged in partnership with the regional unions.
The “TEAM-EC” is a fellowship of five young people that offer bible weeks and other events for children all over the country.
Youth and young adults
Our support for youth and young adults is similar to that for the children but appropriate to the age of twens and teens. Another focus in these cohorts lays on building up leadership-capacities. The branch “studi_ec” gathers students in the university cities and helps them to connect with the CE-local groups.
Here we have a focus through all age cohorts. According to our mission statement Endeavors participants are challenged to share the gospel amongst their friends and colleagues. That needs continuous encouragement and support. In addition to that the federal association offers formats for evangelistic rallies and events and helps local groups find speakers, bands and artists.
Beside a counseling center for young adults CE Germany runs a hospital, several clinics and nursing homes especially for elderly people. In India we have 150 projects, offering housing, schooling and health care for 7.000 children. Our local groups receive inspiration for social work amongst needy people and refugees in their areas.
Voluntary Social Year
About 100 young adults are passing their voluntary social year under the trusteeship of the GYFCE. They work in churches, hospitals, retreat houses and other social projects. In the statutory seminars they participate in they get an introduction to Christian faith and life.
This department creates clips and films to spread the gospel on social media. A publishing house creates and produces the magazines and books for use in the groups as well as for individual discipleship. News items about Christian youth work are released for churches, politics and society nationally. The regional unions receive support for their own local PR-Work.
The GYFCE as well as the regional unions operate retreat houses and campgrounds for recreation, trainings and seminars.
The German CE-movement does not stand-alone but is part of a vital network of churches and Christian movements fostering evangelistic outreaches, events and congresses.
